GORAKHPUR: In a devastating incident, an 18-year-old girl was electrocuted to death on Sunday while inspecting her family's under-construction new home in the Moghalha area. The deceased, identified as Sakshi alias Pragya, was a Class 12 student.

According to reports, Sakshi had accompanied her mother, Shashibala Maurya, a government school teacher, and her younger brother to the construction site. While her mother was on the ground floor, Sakshi went to the second-floor roof. Officials from the electricity department stated that while using her mobile phone and peering down from the railing, she came into contact with an open live electric wire passing near the house.

Upon hearing shouts from passersby who witnessed the accident, her mother rushed to the roof. Bystanders managed to separate Sakshi from the wire using a plastic pipe, but she had already succumbed to her injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tragedy has left the family shattered. Shashibala Maurya, a widow who lost her husband years ago, is now inconsolable after losing her daughter. She described Sakshi as her primary support in life and all responsibilities. The family also includes an 11-year-old son, Shreyansh.

Police from the Gulriha police station responded to the incident and sent the body to BRD Medical College for a postmortem. The electricity department has cut power to the area and launched an investigation into the exposed wiring.
