Senseless Metro stabbing in Charlotte

On August 22, 2025, 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was fatally stabbed in an unprovoked attack aboard the Lynx Blue Line in Charlotte, North Carolina. Surveillance camera footage shows she boarded the train just after 9:45 pm, took a seat in front of the future attacker, and within minutes was struck three times—once in the neck. The suspect, 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr., who has a long criminal record and documented mental health issues, was arrested after disembarking at the next stop.
