Why do great people have to die?

Why does it take a death to get people to muster up what ever courage they have to do what God has been calling them to do for years? In the likeness of Jesus, Charlie Kirk and Martian Luther King started powerful movements after they were murdered by those in power. Why did it take their deaths to get people moving?
