"Thee" or "ye"; second person singular or plural; does it matter?!

Is there a distinction between 2nd person singular and 2nd person plural?
If so, is it important and could mistranslations result in confusion or unclear doctrines?
“In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.” (Psalm 71:1)
“For God is not [the author] of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. ” (1 Corinthians 14:33)
“For where envying and strife [is], there [is] confusion and every evil work.” (James 3:16)
