Scissors-Wielding Man Shot by Police on San Francisco Freeway

On September 4, 2025, at approximately 11:19 a.m., San Francisco Police officers were in the area of northbound Hwy 101 near Cesar Chavez Street assisting San Francisco Sheriff Deputies regarding a male subject walking on the freeway. While on scene, SFPD made contact with the subject, identified as 40-year-old Juan Antonio Serrato, near the Caesar Chavez off-ramp. During the encounter, Serrato produced an edged weapon (scissors) , and an officer-involved shooting occurred. One SFPD officer was involved. Officers on scene rendered aid, and paramedics transported Serrato to a local hospital. Serrato is now stable, and recovering at San Francisco General Hospital. No one else was injured in the incident.
