Resident Evil 2 Clássico 1998 #Continuation
Resident Evil 2 , known in Japan as Biohazard 2 (バイオハザード2 , Baiohazādo Tsū ) , is a survival horror video game originally released for the PlayStation in 1998. Developed by Capcom as the second title in the Resident Evil series, its story takes place two months after the events of the first game . It is set in Raccoon City, an American community whose residents have been transformed into zombies by the T-virus, a biological weapon developed by the pharmaceutical company Umbrella Corporation. In their escape from the city, the two protagonists, Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, meet other survivors and are confronted by William Birkin, the creator of an even more powerful virus called the G-virus, which he has injected into himself.
Resident Evil 2 's gameplay focuses on exploration, puzzle- solving , and combat, featuring elements typical of the survival horror genre , such as limited ammunition and saves . The game's main difference from its predecessor is the " Zapping System ," which provides each character with a unique story and obstacles. Developed by a team of forty to sixty people over the course of a year and nine months, Resident Evil 2 was directed by Hideki Kamiya and produced by Shinji Mikami . The initial version, commonly referred to as Resident Evil 1.5 , differed drastically from the final product and was discontinued when it was over sixty percent finished, after being deemed "dull and boring" by the producer. The resulting remake introduced different settings and a more cinematic story, supported by a soundtrack that uses "despair" as an underlying theme.
Resident Evil 2 received widespread acclaim from critics, who praised its atmosphere, setting, graphics, and audio. However, its controls, voice acting, and inventory system received some criticism, as did the puzzles, which were not well received by some reviewers. The game sold over four million copies on the PlayStation and is the most successful title in the franchise on a single platform. After its release, Resident Evil 2 was included in several lists of the 100 best games. It was also ported to Microsoft Windows , Nintendo 64 , Dreamcast , and GameCube , as well as a modified 2.5D version for the Game.com handheld console . Its story was retold and developed in several subsequent games, and adapted into a variety of licensed works. It was followed by Resident Evil 3: Nemesis in 1999. A remake was released in January 2019 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 , and Xbox One .
