Taming The Beast - The Black Walnut Burl

In this woodturning adventure, I take on a massive and spiked Black Walnut Burl, a truly daunting piece of wood with an irregular shape and unpredictable features. The challenge? Preserving as much of the burl's natural character as possible while turning it into a shallow bowl with beautifully showcased grain patterns. I decided to embrace the natural voids rather than filling them, allowing the raw beauty of the wood to shine through.

The result? A stunning bowl that showcases the unique wings of the burl and its mesmerizing grain. This has become one of my favorite pieces to date! Watch as I transform this extraordinary chunk of Black Walnut into a breathtaking piece of functional art.
