Judge’s Leniency Sparks Controversy as Violent Offender Faces New Charges

Patrick Maisonet, a 29-year-old Renton, Washington resident, faces over 10 felony counts, including first-degree robbery and burglary, as the alleged ringleader of a 2025 home invasion spree targeting high-profile figures like Ichiro Suzuki, Richard Sherman, and Macklemore. The crimes, spanning January to June, involved pepper-spraying victims, using WiFi jammers, and stealing valuable items, later pawned at a Seattle jewelry store. Maisonet pleaded not guilty on September 15, 2025, and is held on over $2 million bail.

Maisonet’s criminal history, dating back to 2009, paints a troubling picture. At age 13, he was convicted of robbery and assault. By 2016, he faced charges of first-degree kidnapping, carjacking, and unlawful firearm possession after a shootout and crash on Interstate 5 in Seattle. Court records describe a “disturbing” pattern of violent offenses, including residential burglary and theft, earning him the label of a “high violent offender” with gang ties to “Down Wit’ the Crew.” In 2023, he allegedly tased victims in a Beacon Hill home invasion and stole firearms in Tacoma.

In a 2024 hearing for the 2023 crimes, prosecutors sought $500,000 bail, citing Maisonet’s extensive record. However, King County Superior Court Judge Ketu Shah reduced it to $50,000 with electronic monitoring, stating, “I think there’s always the hope that people have the capacity to change their behavior.” Maisonet violated this by cutting off his ankle monitor, leading to a second-degree escape charge and allegedly committing the 2025 spree, including a $30,000 watch theft from a Bellevue jewelry store.
