Trumpets of Joshua and Revelation: Signals of Warning, Not Celebration

In this study session, we’ll dive into how the trumpets blown at Jericho by Joshua’s priests mirror the trumpets of Revelation. We’ll explore why the use of ram’s horns to gather leaders differs from the use of silver trumpets to warn the community to flee. We’ll also unpack how the Feast of Trumpets has been reinterpreted into a New Year’s celebration, shifting its original meaning as a solemn warning into something else entirely—much like the misinterpretation of Joel’s army. Through this lens, we’ll see how both Jewish and Christian traditions can sometimes miss the warning signals, turning moments of serious reflection into times of misplaced celebration.
