Confusion choosing a profession - suggestion

I never knew what job to do until late in life. Humans have been living in rural life for thousands of years.

Of course, country side life is not for everyone. It would be important to make sure it's financially possible to move back to city life, if rural life doesn't work for a person.

Also, there must be either some sort of production - such as selling fruits, vegetables, dairy, in order to have an income. One may also simply continue to work online a regular job such as IT.

Just my take on this: instead of having a large area with short cut grass, I prefer natural grown grass or meadow. But more important, I see agriculture as a diversity of plants, from vegetables, to berries, fruit trees, cereals and even a piece of forest which can be used for walks but also for wood fire (heating and cooking). The larger the diversity, the better it may be. There are many types of fruit trees that can be grown, why not have a few of each and selling the fruits in excess.

Finding the right location is one of the factors. The country side does vary greatly from a region to another.

Finally, it is better not to idealize rural life. Just like everything else, there are good parts but also downsides. Ideally a person must like being in the middle of the nature and be able to simply enjoy being there. In other words, this environment must be felt as enjoyable. I think this also comes with an inner personal equilibrium. Inner peace helps some persons enjoy more the nature.
