I want to buy something old and cursed? Should I buy this bank? To run an FTX style Crypto scam out of? Just for fun?
The bank, with its beautiful white marble facade was built in 1900. The bank was opened in 1902 but as the cotton economy collapsed in the 1920s when boll weevils emaciated the price of cotton, and the bank found that all of its loan notes were suddenly worthless and uncollectable, and the bank had no choice but to close the doors in the early 1920s.
A business man would briefly reopen the bank but it would close again in 1926. It’s hard to fathom that this bank has not been in operation for 99 years but I couldn’t find any information on it after that. To the left of the bank was the town’s post office until around 1920. It would later serve as an accounting office and a barbershop. To the right is the towns modern post office which is one of the few signs of life remaining in the town. The town had another post office from the 20s through the 60s.
