FOV Matters - Exploiting Zombies Despawns on Black Ops

There are invisible lines on the screen within which zombies will not distance despawn when the 10 second despawn check occurs (every 0.00 on the WSplit timer, which tracks server time); all other undamaged zombies will despawn if they are too far from the player's position, using both vertical and horizontal distance. This applies to the 3 maps with distance despawn mechanics on BO1 (Call of the Dead, Shangri-La, and Moon). Increasing your FOV will put more of the map within the bounds of the 2 invisible lines on the screen, allowing you to avoid unwanted distance despawns.
