• Microsoft is putting down nearly $30 billion to expand its AI and cloud infrastructure in Britain. That means not just new data centres, but entire industrial zones in the northeast built to house the world’s most powerful computing power.
• Nvidia is supplying hundreds of thousands of GPUs (the chips that make AI run), while also promising to seed British startups and build a domestic ecosystem.
• Google/Alphabet is pledging around £5 billion for data centres and AI research, remember, DeepMind is London-based, and this is about tying it more tightly into national strategy.
• Together with OpenAI, these giants are backing something called “Stargate UK”: a super-computing project that will effectively act as Britain’s sovereign AI engine.

All of this is being tied to new “AI Growth Zones” in the North East, the same region that will also host the first wave of modular nuclear plants. Energy and intelligence, bound together. Thousands of jobs will be created.
