“A spectre is haunting Europe—the spectre of Communism.” Those are Karl Marx's opening words in the Communist Manifesto (1848). It could be suggested that another spectre in haunting the so-called West nowadays: The Spectre of Zionism.
In the 19th century two currents converge: Jewish Zionism (Hertzel), mainly a political movement, and the so-called 'Christian Zionism' nowadays out of American Protestantism with Calvinist roots (Schoffield Bible, Dispensionalism... etc). The two were to converge in late 20th century.
