Why One Text Can’t Tell the Whole Story

A wife recently asked me, “I saw a text between my husband and a female co-worker… should I be worried?”

One text alone doesn’t give us the full picture. Yes, it matters—and yes, it’s worth paying attention to—but context is everything.

Ask yourself:

Is this a pattern, or a one-time message?

Is he open and transparent, or is he hiding and covering it up?

Is your discomfort coming from what’s actually happening, or from unresolved fears and insecurity in the marriage?

You’re not being unreasonable for asking the question. In fact, ignoring it would be more concerning. But what matters most is whether you can have an honest conversation about it—and whether there’s trust and safety in the bigger picture of your marriage.

This is exactly the kind of work we do inside Marriage in Bloom, my six-month marriage intensive. If you’re ready to move from uncertainty to clarity, from suspicion to understanding, visit debbiecaudle.com/therapy-for-christian-couples
.
Because trust isn’t built on avoiding hard conversations—it’s built on how you navigate them.
