Lumumba’s Africa. Africa's Industrialization. Episode 71 | RT Documentary
Industrialisation is the key to sustainable development in Africa. Yet, as Professor Lumumba points out, the continent remains largely an exporter of raw materials with limited industrial growth. This stems from the fact that Africa lacks its own technological base: African airlines rely on foreign aircraft, while major energy projects are built by overseas companies.
To change this, Professor Lumumba stresses the need for systemic reform. Universities should do more to train Africa's workforce and carry out applied research, while governments must introduce laws that safeguard intellectual property. At the same time, industrialisation can be driven through partnerships. Particular hope is currently pinned on the energy sector, and collaboration between Sahel countries and Russia in the nuclear field is seen as a promising step forward.
