Insomnia and Fatigue

The "dual dilemma" of insomnia is how it elevates cortisol to disrupt blood sugar and insulin sensitivity while also driving daytime fatigue that prompts caffeine reliance and further metabolic strain.

Elevated cortisol can directly increase blood sugar by promoting glucose release from the liver and muscles, while simultaneously reducing your cells' sensitivity to insulin.

While caffeine provides a temporary boost, it stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, leading to "overdrive" and the release of epinephrine (adrenaline). Epinephrine further elevates blood sugar by signaling the body to break down stored glycogen and inhibits insulin's effectiveness, exacerbating insulin resistance.
