We’re cracking open the opening lines of the U.S. Constitution — the Preamble. It’s only fifty-two words long, but those words have carried more weight than entire volumes of political theory.

It starts with three of the most powerful words in American history: “We the People.” Not “We the Congress.” Not “We the States.” Not “We the Politicians Who Think They’re Smarter Than You.” Nope — We the People.
