Stephen M. Vantassel, host of The Wildlife Control Consultant Podcast, discusses research by Matteo Patergnani et al. 2010. Environmental influence on urban rodent bait consumption. Journal of Pest Science. Patergnani's research article highlights key habitat elements that make it more likely for a rodent to enter a bait station, namely water, harborage, and vegetation. The research also found that food and predators had a negative impact on mouse and rat use of bait stations. Ultimately, bait station placement by considering the location is essential to ensure that your stations are entered and not just lawn ornaments.
