Though I never forgot this tale, the spymaster slipped from my focus. And that’s a mistake I’m glad to correct here. His presence adds a layer of mystery and menace I’ll be exploring further. The image that sparked this story has stayed with me ever since, and the spymaster emerged from it fully formed, butterflies and all.
