त्रेता युग की यह कथा असुरों और देवताओं के बीच संतुलन की है।
असुरराज बलि ने अपनी तपस्या और बल से तीनों लोकों पर अधिकार कर लिया। देवताओं ने जब भगवान विष्णु से प्रार्थना की, तो उन्होंने वामन अवतार लिया।

भगवान ने छोटे ब्राह्मण बालक का रूप धारण करके बलि के यज्ञ में प्रवेश किया और केवल तीन पग भूमि माँगी। बलि ने गर्व से वचन दे दिया। लेकिन वामन का स्वरूप विराट हो गया—
पहला पग: पृथ्वी
दूसरा पग: आकाश
तीसरे पग के लिए स्थान न बचा, तब बलि ने अपना सिर झुका दिया।

भगवान ने उसे पाताल लोक का स्वामी बनाया।
यह कथा हमें सिखाती है कि अभिमान चाहे कितना भी बड़ा हो, ईश्वर की लीला से कोई नहीं बच सकता।

This story from the Treta Yug illustrates the balance between demons and gods.
Asur King Bali had gained control over the three worlds through penance and strength. When the gods prayed to Lord Vishnu, He took the Vaman Avatar.

Disguised as a small Brahmin boy, Vishnu approached Bali during his yajna and asked for just three paces of land. Bali confidently agreed. But Vishnu expanded to a gigantic form:
First step: Earth
Second step: Sky
For the third step, there was no space, so Bali bowed his head.

Lord Vishnu then made Bali the ruler of Patala (netherworld).
This story teaches us that no one can escape God’s divine play, no matter how proud they are.
