The Curse of Tippecanoe
The Curse of the Tecumseh People
American General William Henry Harrison led troops to attack the Native Americans,
Demanding that they cede their land.
To the Native Americans,
Land is a sacred existence,
As vital as air and water,
The collective wealth of all Native peoples.
Tecumseh, the Shawnee chief, refused to give up the land,
Uniting surrounding tribes to resist Harrison’s invasion.
Yet, Tecumseh could not withstand the bombardment of the American forces,
And in the end, he was defeated and killed.
Tecumseh’s brother, Tenskwatawa, then cast a curse:
Every 20 years, an American president shall die during their term.
Pray for the Native Americans,
Pray for the earth and the land,
Pray for the countless Native Americans who lost their land,
Comfort their spirits.
On Thanksgiving, give thanks for the grace of the Native Americans,
Who shared their harvested grains and food with the settlers.
Comfort their spirits, we, the saved Christians,
Rise to build homes for the Native Americans,
Prepare a resting place for their souls.
Pray for the Shawnee chief Tecumseh,
Pray for the spirits lost in war,
Pray for Tecumseh’s brother, Tenskwatawa,
Protect their spirits from the torments of purgatory.
Tenskwatawa, Tecumseh’s brother, said it was too late—
The curse, like an arrow, has been shot,
Hitting its target with precision, irrevocable.
Build a resting place for the Native American spirits,
Construct a holy city of light.
Bless the bloodstained land,
Break the curse born of vengeance,
Guard the peaceful rest of all souls.
President Lincoln prays with us,
The prayers of all Christians,
Like eagles soaring in the sky,
Sprinkling blessings from above onto this blessed land.
President Lincoln says, pray for America,
Like eagles soaring in the sky,
Pouring divine anointing onto this blessed land.
Christians, arise and shine,
Christians, rise and pray,
Let us unite in prayer to break the curse,
And spread peace across this land.
