New target for Flamingo missiles_ Shaheed launch pad in Bryansk and Oryol regions of Russia
SUBSCRIBE TO US! It was reported that the Russian army has built a Shahed/Geran launch complex in the Bryansk region. The Russian military facility, conveniently located just 35 km from the Ukrainian border, consists of two launch pads with catapults and four storage facilities. A satellite photo confirming the appearance of a new target was published on his social media account by X Brady Afrik, an analyst at the Department of Foreign and Defense Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute. The drone launch pad was built on a large area between the villages of Aleshek, Voina, Golyshyna, Martynovka and Zhyvy Klyuch. So, the occupiers are ready to attack Ukrainian territory with drones from a new site in the Bryansk region, a few dozen kilometers from the border. Therefore, it is expected that Ukraine will strike this territory. One of the most effective means for this is considered to be the Flamingo missiles. Recall that Russia is capable of building new Shahed launch pads in just a few weeks, which raises the question of how and with what means such facilities can be neutralized. In the Bryansk region, work began in mid-July 2024, and the launch road and initial infrastructure were ready by early August. Secure storage of drones was completed by mid-September. In the Oryol region, construction began on August 20, the road and launch pads were ready by early September, and the pad was put into operation by the end of the same month. The full construction time for a functional launch pad was approximately one month, although upgrades such as underground drone hangars were added later. Although these sites are within range of long-range drones and missiles, experts say that strikes on roads or launch pads would have limited impact. The primary targets would be drone caches, which require precision strikes with sufficiently powerful warheads. Other potential tactics could include cluster munitions or remote mining to disrupt operations, but such strikes would require systems with sufficient range and payload, as well as the ability to overcome Russian air defense and electronic warfare assets in the area. The speed of construction means that Russia could deploy new Shahed launch sites in different regions with minimal warning, making detection and preventive action difficult. Previously, satellite imagery and open source analysis indicated that Russian forces are rebuilding parts of the destroyed Donetsk airport to house Iranian-made Shahed drones, with new UAV shelters, control points, and runway preparation seen alongside construction at nearby commercial properties.
