Sage Steele: my thoughts on Jimmy Kimmel

Sage Steele: As a longtime employee at Disney and ABC who was suspended for my views a couple of years ago, I believe I have a unique perspective on this Jimmy Kimmel situation. Three things, and I think we need to make them very clear. Jimmy Kimmel was not telling a joke, which he gets paid millions of dollars a year to do. He intentionally referred to the MAGA gang and how they are apparently in denial that Charlie Kirk’s killer is one of them. Those were his words: MAGA gang.

He said that even after the FBI and the governor of Utah gave very specific details about what was in Tyler Robinson’s text messages, and after both the governor and the FBI told us very clearly that the alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, had written: “Hey, fascist, catch this” on one of the bullets. We all know which side constantly uses that word, “fascist.” It’s not MAGA.

For once, corporate America did the right thing. But let me clarify, it was Nexstar and Sinclair, not Disney ABC, but Nexstar and Sinclair. They were the ones who said, “enough.” Why? Well, they understand that the majority of people in this country, the majority of sane human beings across the entire world, are horrified by the murder of Charlie Kirk. Because obviously, it is horrific to see anyone’s life taken in this way, no matter which political side they are on.

So what Kimmel did, which is to continue dividing, is the gentlest way to put it. It’s simply bad for profits, it’s bad for business. And it doesn’t help when your ratings are already falling. Usually, as I and many others know, Disney and ABC reward “woke” leftists who have gotten away with spreading lies and hatred on ABC, on ESPN, and across all of Disney’s platforms as well. Maybe, just maybe, the executives are realizing that it’s not only bad for business, it’s just plain wrong.

They can’t have it both ways. They can’t celebrate and actually enable the cancellation of others who simply express opinions different from theirs. But then lose their minds and become outraged when someone they do agree with is held accountable for misleading and certainly insensitive comments.

What about when Jimmy Kimmel celebrated Tucker Carlson being fired? What about when he attacked those who didn’t want to comply with the ridiculous vaccine mandates? None of that is aging very well right now.
