Marking a year since the military's offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon, the IDF releases new footage from the ground operations in the south of the country.
The IDF's Operation Northern Arrows began with a strike on September 20, 2024, killing top Hezbollah commander Ibrahim Aqil and the senior leadership of the terror group's operations array and elite Radwan Force.
Over the following week, a series of airstrikes were carried out on Hezbollah infrastructure and top commanders, culminating with the elimination of the terror group's leader, Hassan Nasrallah, on September 27, 2024.
Days later, the IDF sent ground troops into southern Lebanon. Five divisions operated in over 30 villages, killing Hezbollah operatives and dismantling the terror group's infrastructure.
The IDF says that during the ground offensive, 9,800 targets were struck, which destroyed thousands of rockets and launchers, causing a significant blow to Hezbollah's firepower capabilities, including around 80% of its short-range launch ability. Troops also seized some 85,000 weapons and other items from Hezbollah.
In all, between 4,000 and 5,000 Hezbollah operatives and commanders were killed, and another 9,000 were wounded in the fighting, according to the IDF's estimates.
The military says the ground offensive "stripped Hezbollah of its main capabilities," including its so-called "Conquest of the Galilee" plan.
A total of 52 IDF soldiers were killed in the ground offensive in Lebanon, according to the army.
The offensive ended with a ceasefire agreement in November 2024, which has been in effect since, despite continued IDF presence at five posts in southern Lebanon and attacks on Hezbollah operatives accused of violating the terms of the truce by trying to rebuild the terror group's infrastructure.
Since the ceasefire, the IDF says it has killed over 300 Hezbollah operatives in strikes, hit hundreds of Hezbollah sites, and conducted over 1,000 raids and other small operations in southern Lebanon.
In addition to the five posts inside southern Lebanon, the IDF says it has also established 30 more army positions on the Israeli side of the border, and restored another 50 that were damaged in the fighting.
