Mortal Kombat Trilogy (N64)

Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the Nintendo 64 was a port of the fighting game initially released in 1996. Due to the console's cartridge format, it was a notably scaled-down version compared to its PlayStation counterpart, with significant differences in character roster, sound quality, and graphical animations. The N64 port was missing the classic versions of Jax, Kung Lao, Kano, and Raiden, as well as the bosses Goro and Kintaro. To compensate, the N64 version featured the secret character Khameleon. This female ninja randomly adopted the movesets of Kitana, Mileena, and Jade, replacing the male ninja Chameleon from other versions. Due to the limited storage space of the cartridge, the sound quality was significantly lower than the CD-based versions. The game's graphical resolution was lower than the PlayStation version, resulting in a blurrier and less vibrant look. The game engine ran faster on the N64, which, combined with the missing animation frames, led to unintended exploits like infinite combos and quicker basic attacks. The cartridge format provided the advantage of eliminating loading screens, which were present in the CD-based versions and the N64 port uniquely featured simultaneous 3-on-3 combat.
