Public Enemy Number One: The Matt Taylor Effect.

After 10 years on YouTube, I’ve come to a sobering self-realisation: I am the number one bogeyman.

I’m the figure people reach for when they want to look good by comparison. The one who makes everyone feel a little better about themselves. If you’re feeling low, if you need a quick ego boost, if you want to score cheap laughs or applause—just take a dig at Matt Taylor.

And here’s the kicker: no one will pull you up on it. In fact, the opposite is true. You’ll be rewarded. Praised. Patted on the back. Cheered on by the crowd. Because after all, everyone hates Matt Taylor.

I’ve become Public Enemy Number One. A walking, talking scapegoat. The man it’s always safe to mock, dismiss, or vilify.

But what does that really say?

It says more about society, and about YouTube culture, than it does about me. I’ve stood the test of time for a decade. I’ve put my name, my face, my voice out there—openly, honestly, consistently. Meanwhile, the very people who hurl their stones remain faceless, nameless, hiding behind their avatars and fake identities.

So yes, I accept it. If you ever need to feel better about yourself, go ahead—compare yourself to me. Use me as your punchline, your bogeyman, your dartboard. Because if ten years online has taught me anything, it’s this:

I’m still here. Still standing. Still speaking. Still Matt Taylor.

And that, in the end, says it all.
