Howdy ya’ll. As the lavish spectacle of elite-class parties swept over Europe, the magnitude and questionable nature of these meetings began to draw the attention of the everyday masses. For it was through these often secretive parties that entire facets of society came into being, and under the scrutiny of the key players history itself may have been reshaped.

Yet, following Revolutions throughout Europe, the dynamic of these opulent events appears to have shifted to something more esoteric, and by the time these masquerades started being held in America, the history becomes truly fascinating.

We’re told it was through the Brevoort Family of New York (who settled there from Holland in 1655) that the first of these major masquerades was held in New York City. In this video we will examine the Brevoort Family, who are considered to be the original European occupants of Fifth Avenue - a street which ran exclusively through their farmland - and it was on this tract of muddy road that the Brevoorts founded “the first major mansion” of New York City.

This mansion would also serve as the setting for the Brevoort Ball of 1840. Most of the history of the Brevoorts appears to have been compartmentalized, but diving into a multitude of narratives, including firsthand accounts, I will attempt to unravel the mystery. I believe this video will certainly strike a chord with many viewers, especially those interested in the true nature of The Old World and New York. Enjoy!
