SWORN - Gameplay Overview Trailer

SWORN is an RPG roguelike in which you battle the Knights of the Round Table and take on a corrupted King Arthur. You attain blessings from the Fae Lords that you can combine with a variety of weapons, classes, and abilities to create unique builds. Other characters such as Lancelot, Gawain, and Merlin make their appearances as either friends or foes.

However, SWORN is drawing comparisons to Supergiant’s Hades series. There are a lot similarities in the genre, art style, and gameplay, not to mention the chosen release date by developer Windwalk Games and Team 17, that can’t be ignored.

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then some of the most successful indie games are now getting a lot of flattery. Hollow Knight had many imitators during the eight-year wait before Hollow Knight: Silksong released. Stardew Valley has its own as well, and now Hades with SWORN. However, that doesn’t mean these games are bad any stretch since many of them have unique aspects that make them worth playing (SWORN currently has a Very Positive user rating on Steam), but SWORN is definitely going to have an uphill battle to fight not only looking and playing very similar to Hades in many respects, but also choosing to come out of Early Access almost the same day as Hades II at close to the same price point. Although its releasing on PS5 and Xbox while Hades II is only releasing on PC and Switch for now. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

SWORN releases for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 23, 2025.
