In this episode of "Interpreting Tradition", we turn to John Buchan’s (1875-1940) autobiography "Memory Hold-the-Door" to explore how he saw figures of his time: Lord Milner, H. H. Asquith, Kiplin, Ramsay MacDonald.
Buchan’s portrait of MacDonald is especially striking — a man of sincerity and eloquence, with the stature of a leader yet often at odds with the hard realities of politics. By contrasting these early 20th-century leaders with those of today, we ask: what has changed in the qualities we demand from leadership, and what has been lost?
This video reflects on the nature of authority, integrity, and political character across generations.

I read and interpret what deserves not to be forgotten. If that resonates—join in.
Some of what I share In this channel "Interpreting Tradition", are reflections on Literature, Politics, History, Philosophy. Sometimes I read old texts out loud, and sometimes I just speak into the camera. But behind every video is the same impulse: to preserve something. To interpret what’s been handed down — carefully, honestly, and with a sense of reverence.
