Watching Trains Ep 16 - Preview

We acquired most of our intermodal cars and containers over 30-years ago. About half of them have been in storage all of that time. We decided recently to get them all out of storage and put them on one train. We added them to our Q-ELKC train and replaced the cowl unit motive power with four SD40-2's and one GP60B.

Some of the cars needed weathering and had wheels that had never been painted to look like they were rusty and dirty. We painted the car bodies of the un-weathered rolling stock with a coat of black wash to give them some road grime. Being satisfied with their new weathered look we added them to the train.

The final result was an intermodal train with five locomotives and twenty-seven cars, including the Topeka Business Car on the rear with operating marker and tail lights.

Intermodal Cars:
Five-unit set of Gunderson Bulk Head Well Cars, made by A-Line.
All other well and spine cars are Walthers.
