Man representing himself against charges of trying to kill Trump plans to call just 3 witnesses

Ryan Routh, charged with attempting to assassinate President Trump at his Florida golf course, is representing himself in federal court.

Prosecutors rested after seven days and 38 witnesses, presenting evidence that Routh plotted the attack for weeks and aimed a rifle at a Secret Service agent, who fired, forcing him to flee.

Routh has pleaded not guilty to multiple federal and state charges, including attempted murder and terrorism, and plans to call a firearms expert and two character witnesses in his defense.

Before the alleged attack, he texted loved ones to say goodbye, and has a history of violent incidents and criminal activity dating back to 2002, the AP has reported.

Closing arguments are scheduled for Tuesday, after which the jury will begin deliberations.
