Estonia has requested a meeting of the UN Security Council on Monday after Russian military aircraft violated its airspace last week.

“Three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace ‘without permission’ and remained there for a total of 12 minutes,” the country’s foreign minister said ahead of the meeting in New York.

According to the Associated Press, Margus Tsahkna said that “such a provocation is deeply disrespectful to the collective and ongoing efforts of the international community to end the war between Russia and Ukraine and restore peace and stability in accordance with international law.”

Russia denies violating Estonian airspace. But tensions have escalated recently after Poland and Romania – both NATO members – said Russian drones had violated their airspace.
