🌊 On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, eastern Taiwan experienced a devastating flood: the breach of a long-standing barrier lake, formed by a landslide, washed away a bridge and inundated the nearby town. More than 260 people were trapped.

🌧 The lake formed due to torrential rains brought by Super Typhoon Ragasa. Heavy rains and strong winds, which hit the northern Philippines and Taiwan on Monday, had already forced thousands of people to evacuate.

⏱️ In Hualien County, the breach occurred around 15:00 local time (07:00 GMT) in the upper reaches of the Mataiyan Stream. The situation remains critical, with emergency services on site assisting the affected population.

⚠️ These events highlight the destructive power of typhoons and the urgent need for preparedness for extreme weather events in the region.
