Ukrainian forces in Sumy have successfully used methodical maneuver warfare, advancing settlement by settlement to turn Russian positions into manageable targets. Rather than sacrificing lives in costly frontal battles, Ukrainian commanders are isolating enemy units, cutting their supply lines, and then tightening the noose until those positions are untenable. Continuous airstrikes and drone strikes have exposed Russian units, leaving many of them undersupplied and without rotation for weeks, Euromaidan Press reports. By bypassing strongpoints and destroying salients piecemeal, Ukraine has been able to advance north from Kindrativka and even back to Kursk, turning both sides of the border into a flexible battlefield. Another offensive north of Andriyivka has left Alekseyevka cut off on three sides, and the Russians there are facing an increasingly dangerous situation. The encirclement is the result of coordinated Ukrainian maneuver, constant fire control, and constant pressure, with Ukrainian units now making flanking attacks to close off side routes. At the same time, Ukrainian drones are launching hundreds of strikes on Russian troop concentrations and roads in the area. This is denying the Russians any ability to move freely and is hampering any reinforcement efforts. With only one usable road to Alekseyevka, delivering supplies, evacuating the wounded, or rotating troops has become virtually impossible, as anyone attempting to approach is detected and engaged long before they reach the outer edge of the settlement. Russian soldiers on the ground are now openly warning that Alekseyevka faces the same fate as Kindrativka unless the Russian command abandons the position and digs in more troops, as they report that the semi-encirclement is rapidly turning into a massacre. Instead, Russian officers have responded with frantic redeployments in an attempt to break through the encirclement, as the exhausted 382nd Separate Infantry Battalion of the 810th Brigade of the Russian Naval Forces has been deployed in Kindrativka, Euromaidan Press reports. The formation was expected to counterattack and liberate the defensive center in Alekseyevka. Under normal conditions, it would have about a thousand soldiers, but under current conditions it has only about five hundred. Notably, a significant portion of them are reportedly newly mobilized, poorly trained, and poorly equipped soldiers who were transferred only to bring the battalion to a higher level of combat readiness on paper. Russian sources confirm that all combat-ready reserves have been redeployed to Pokrovsk, leaving only second-tier and undermanned units to deal with the task of preventing a complete collapse.

One Russian officer even reported that they only accept the elderly, marginalized, and simply unfit recruits in poor physical condition. He added that to prevent officers from deserting or being shot, they are constantly monitored by military police, and they are only issued weapons just before combat missions, with ammunition limited to two magazines per person. The attempted hasty countermeasure to attack Kindrativka to relieve pressure in Oleksiivka was predictable and doomed to failure, Euromaidan Press reports.
