According to the Crimean Wind channel and Russian media, the facility is linked to the Federal Security Service, and the strike may have killed or injured people. The Russian Defense Ministry later said it had shot down Ukrainian drones. Russian authorities said 16 drones were shot down over the Black Sea and three more directly over Crimea. Russian local channels began reporting explosions in the Foros area, which Ukrainian monitoring reports later confirmed. Initial reports suggest the Foros sanatorium was the target. The facility is linked to Russia’s FSB. Vladimir Putin has reportedly stayed at the sanatorium several times. There are also at least four state-owned dachas between Foros and Yalta.

During the Soviet Union, Foros served as a vacation spot for top party officials, including general secretaries. Mikhail Gorbachev stayed there in 1991 during the coup d’état in Moscow, organized by the State Emergency Committee.
Russian media reported that an unknown private event was planned in Foros for the evening of September 21. Russian authorities in Crimea confirmed the strike and warned of possible casualties.
Ukrainian intelligence for the first time in history destroyed two enemy Be-12 Chaika amphibious aircraft. This happened in temporarily occupied Crimea, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (MOD).
According to the MOD, on September 21, fighters from the Ghosts special unit of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine tracked down two Russian Be-12 Chaika amphibious aircraft in occupied Crimea.
“This is the first strike on a Be-12 in history,” the MOD noted. Along with the two Be-12s, the Privyts unit also shot down another Russian multi-role Mi-8 helicopter during the Crimean raid. The Be-12 Chaika is a Soviet amphibious anti-submarine aircraft developed in the 1960s by the Beriev Design Bureau. It can take off from both land and water. The aircraft's primary missions include detecting, tracking, and destroying submarines, as well as conducting search and rescue operations.
The Be-12 is equipped with sonar buoys, a magnetometer, radar systems, and can carry torpedoes, depth charges, and other specialized weapons.
Despite its age, the Be-12 has remained a part of Russian naval aviation, especially in the Black Sea. Due to its limited numbers and complex maintenance requirements, the aircraft is considered rare and expensive to operate, and its anti-submarine systems are still valuable.
