Strategic Planning - Not Strategic Hoping

We all have great hopes and dreams for what we want to accomplish.

If our strategic planning is just hoping and dreaming, it causes leaders to put the people in our organizations in impossible situations. They don't have the time, team size, funding, or equipment/tools to make it happen in the time that leadership put in their SMART goals.

I am totally on board for going after the impossible and dreaming bigger than you can ever imagine. We just have to be careful to NOT chase off our biggest go getters, because the system set them up to fail.

Our biggest go getters and world changers sign up for the biggest tasks. Make sure your system is not only about super stretch goals, that punishes the people who provide the most energy and take calculated risks in your organization.

There is nothing worse than going all in to help your organization reach their dream and then not get a raise or promotion because your SMART goals were impossible and those failures are in your record.
