Community Raises Alarm Over Proposed Data Center Development

Caledonia, Wisconsin — September 24, 2025 — Local residents are sounding the alarm over
a proposed data center development that threatens to bring more risk than reward to the
community.
While the project is being pitched as a source of tax revenue, residents and community leaders
point to major downsides:
 Short Lifespan: Most data centers operate only 10–25 years, leaving behind massive
vacant buildings that are difficult to repurpose.
 Few Local Jobs: Despite their size, data centers require minimal staffing, offering little
in long-term employment opportunities.
 Construction Disruptions: Years of heavy construction will bring noise, traffic, and
environmental disturbances to the area.
 Light & Noise Pollution: Nearby neighborhoods will face new burdens despite
receiving little benefit.
 Financial Risk: Heavy reliance on a single taxpayer leaves the community vulnerable if
the company downsizes, relocates, or closes.
 AI Bubble Concerns: With the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, experts warn of a
potential “data center bubble” that could leave communities saddled with empty facilities.
Our community deserves smart, sustainable development—not risky projects that benefit
outside corporations while leaving residents to deal with the fallout.
A coalition of concerned residents has launched a petition to stop the development and protect
