Agamemnon, the first play in Aeschylus’ Oresteia trilogy, tells the story of King Agamemnon’s return to Argos after the Greek victory at Troy. His wife, Clytemnestra, harbors a deep resentment for him, stemming from his sacrifice of their daughter, Iphigenia, to ensure favorable winds for the Greek fleet. Clytemnestra conspires with her lover, Aegisthus, to murder Agamemnon upon his homecoming. The play explores themes of justice, vengeance, the consequences of pride, and the inescapable influence of family curses.
