Grouchy Golfer

Yep! Our moods will reflect in our score! Yes… that is the truth~ Sometimes we get up in a grouchy mood and we don’t deal with it, and we let it take over our attitudes. As a golfer, I call that “grouchy golf”!

It is true in life that we deal with a lot of things we just can’t even begin to handle in our human emotions. We have a human condition, and we get moody when life is not fun, as we deal with things that hurt our soul and punch our emotions into a bad overdrive of ugly.

I wonder when we get really moody about the the things in our lives that we are struggling with, if this is a lack of trusting in God on our part. Do I trust God? If I did completely trust Him, would I be this moody? That is the question today as my golf game completely mirrored my BAD mood.

I admit, I don’t like God’s methods at times, I don’t understand His ways at times, but there is never a time where His ways that were very uncomfortable for me, did not work out for my good. He always has a plan and the endgame is always good, but the way He takes us sometimes doesn’t feel so good and His methods are just foreign to anything we are used to.

Got the golf grouchy going on? Nothing working for you? Our golf game doesn’t work out so well when we are moody, especially if it is a bad, frustrated mood. Oh, so tense! Frustration tenses us up and we play crappy! Once, I watched a golfer throw his club down the fairway after a bad shot… whoa… I wasn’t expecting that! I kind of smiled inside and thought… I bet that felt good… but then again, it didn’t really fix anything or change the situation for the better! I was wondering what it was that made him so angry and frustrated, to throw his club, because you know that kind of a thing is more than being frustrated with your golf game, there is something going on with his inner life.

When our trust is lacking, it is because sometimes we can’t wrap our minds around what God is doing, and how He is doing it. We don’t trust God’s heart intentions for us, when His methods seem so incredibly weird, and not any way close to what we would do. But, the thing is, God knows us better than we know ourselves, He truly knows what we need and the best way to get us to that place.

I am thinking if we yield to God, give God the room He needs to work, trust in His faithfulness, His goodness and remember how trustworthy He is, that we would be less frustrated when things don’t go the way we think they should go. God always has a good plan with a good endgame in mind. He wants what is best for us.

I watched this golf championship and saw the person who held the lead for 15 holes mess up on the 16th hole and I thought… hmmmm how will he handle this… will his disappointment and frustration cause him to fall further behind? Or will he shake it off, and play well, finish well? When you get frustrated and tense, do you do well at life or golf? None of us really do. That is why it is good for us to give God the time to work, the space to work and yield to His way… just trust Him. God is good!

Letting bad moods take over our soul is not a good thing, it reflects a need for a spiritual adjustment of trust, faith and belief. When things mess up all of a sudden, we should cling to God, dig our life roots deeply in Him and activate our faith. Life is always like this, throwing obstacles on our path, like making a bad shot in a championship golf game. What now? We just need to trust God when life throws us a curve and go with the flow of His Holy Spirit. God is constant in all things, love, care, guidance, wisdom, direction, hope, peace, joy… these are all things available to us all the time. Drop the mood, kick out the bad attitude, and pick up what God has in His hand for you. and trust His heart is in the endgame, and it will be well with your soul and you won’t be throwing any golf clubs.
