I climbed to the highest point of Tennoji Temple—its roof tiles warm beneath my feet, the wind brushing strands of hair across my face. From here, the city unfolds in every direction: narrow alleys, merchant stalls, roving soldiers. Beauty and danger, layered atop one another like lacquered armor. I slow my breath, still my body, and listen—not just with my ears, but with the deep attentiveness my father trained into me. Who among these people needs my help? Where can I strike without leaving a trace?

The scroll I came for is hidden beneath sacred stone. I find it tucked away behind an incense burner, its presence marked by subtle signs only a Shinobi would recognize. But this place is teeming with guards—far more than I anticipated. Every breath I take risks exposure, every shadow might betray me. I retrieve the scroll, but before I can search further, I am forced to retreat. I will return, better prepared and more silent still. For now, I vanish like mist in the morning sun.
