The St. Clair County Health Advisory Board meets once a month to address issues of health and safety matters and to hear from concerned citizens. The most controversial issues discussed were the Health Department’s process of granting vaccine waivers, fluoride in the drinking water and PFAS.

PFAS, short for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a group of chemicals known as “forever chemicals” because they persist in the environment and don’t break down easily. These man-made chemicals are widely used in various products and industries for their water, oil, and stain-resistant properties. They have been linked to significant health and environmental concerns due to their persistence and potential for bioaccumulation.
