[Verse1]
Herod’s pride puffed up like a balloon.
He killed James, then seized Peter soon.
He clapped him in prison, a sixteen-man crew,
With two heavy chains, and guards to boot, too.

The church prayed so earnestly, day after day,
For Peter, whose life was set to decay.
Meanwhile, Peter slept soundly, without a fuss,
Between two snoring guards, ignoring the muss.

[Verse2]
Then, "BAM!" on the side! An angel shone bright,
A vision Peter thought, in the pale cell-light.
"Get up! Dress yourself! Your sandals, your cloak!"
And chains fell right off with a clang and a stroke.

Past sleeping guards, and a gate of pure iron,
The angel and Peter, in silent defiance.
The gate opened itself with a miraculous ease,
A perfect escape, a heaven-sent tease.

[Verse3]
The angel vanished, a job done with grace,
And Peter stood stunned in the open-air space.
He walked to a house where the saints prayed with passion,
But they prayed with fear, not with expectation.

A servant girl, Rhoda, heard his knock at the gate,
She recognized his voice, sealed by faith’s fate.
She ran back, forgetting to open the door,
"It's Peter! It's Peter!" she screamed, and much more.

[Verse4]
"You’re nuts!" they all cried. "You’ve gone clean insane!"
"It's his ghost," some declared, through the joyful disdain.
But the banging continued, insistent and loud,
Until they all looked, a bewildered crowd.

They opened the door, and there stood their friend,
Astonished to see the prayer's answered end.
Peter motioned for silence, a sign with his hand,
And then told them about God's escape plan.

An angel arrived in Peter's cell.
The chains fell free by command.
Through iron gates, they walked unseen,
Led safely out by God's own hand.
