New fastest car on the planet beats Bugatti to record speeds of 308.4 mph

Chinese electric vehicle maker Yangwang has set a new production car speed record with its U9 Xtreme (U9X), reaching 308.4 mph (496.22 km/h) at the ATP Papenburg testing facility.

Driven by German racer Marc Basseng, the U9X surpasses the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+’s 304.8 mph record from 2019.

The EV produces 2,977 hp from four individual-wheel motors and features the world’s first 1,200-volt architecture, pushing battery limits rather than motor power.

Only 30 units of the U9X are planned for production, raising questions about whether they will match the record-breaking configuration, the U.S. Sun has reported.

While the U9X also completed a Nürburgring lap in 6:59.157, it falls short of other hypercars like the Xiamoi SU7 Ultra Prototype, and future contenders such as Koenigsegg’s Jesko Absolut and Hennessey’s Venom F5 may soon challenge the top speed crown.
