The Rights of an Apostle

In 1 Corinthians 9, Paul defends his apostleship and explains that though he has the right to receive support from the church, he has not used this right. He emphasizes that he preaches the gospel willingly and adapts himself to different groups to win them for Christ.

He also uses the analogy of an athlete in training, encouraging the Corinthians to run in such a way as to obtain the prize, exercising self-control in all things.
