Matthew Session 21

A short jaunt to the gospel of John by Chuck Missler for the farewell address at the last supper and before the betrayal of Yeshua by Judas in the garden.

The washing of the feet - we are to be servants to one another, not priests nor masters over one another.

«“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.»
JOHN 14:1-2

If it were not so, I would have told you.
Jesus has never talked about setting up mansions for each of us before- so what does He mean?

I believe He means- you have been given the whole truth of what you need. Don't follow men - follow God.
If there was something more needed, He would have said it.
No other books, or talks, or interpretations by "learned men" are needed. No scholars, no degrees, nor priests, nor pope's.
-love one another
-serve on another
-help one another

«Jesus said to him,

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”»
JOHN 14:6-7

No ONE comes to the Father except by way of the Son.
NO ONE.

I cannot tell you how comforting it is to me how dense, even now, the apostles are. Like, how could you have gone on all this time, and STILL not understand who He was...
And yet-
These men went forward under persecution, toil, torture, imprisonment, and horrible deaths (so who the heck am I to talk). They wrote books through The Holy Spirit that would endure through all. Beautiful and eloquent. No, I'm not putting them down-
I am just saying it is TRULY comforting to see their not understanding.

«“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.»
JOHN 15:1-2
(I am the true vine, another title)

"Every branch that bears fruit HE prunes..."
prunes- that is a present tense verb
That is a continual act, we are being perfected, not perfect.
A two way street - you bring forth good fruit
HE prunes
How do we bear good fruit? By keeping His commandments, learning His ways, following the WAY of Jesus Christ.

«If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.»
JOHN 15:7

«Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.»
JOHN 15:13

The beloved prophet- Daniel
The beloved disciple - John

Both wrote the major prophecies of the end.

«“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.»
JOHN 15:18-19

Rejoice if the world hates you. You are not of this world. You have been chosen OUT of this world.
Purchased, paid for.

«And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

of sin, because they do not believe in Me;
of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;
of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.»
JOHN 16:8-11

The prince of THIS WORLD is
JUDGED. Past tense.

«However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.»
JOHN 16:13

The Holy Spirit, The Holy Ghost, The Comforter, Eleazar

«These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”»
JOHN 16:33

In the world you WILL have tribulation.
In Jesus you will have peace.

The LORD's prayer to the Father-
«Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me. “I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name.

Those whom You gave Me I have kept;
and none of them is lost
except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.

They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth. “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”»
JOHN 17:1-26
