In Resident Evil 2, the classic action, tense exploration, and puzzle solving gameplay that defined the Resident Evil series returns. Players join rookie police officer Leon Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield, who are thrust together by a disastrous outbreak in Raccoon City that transformed its population into deadly zombies. Both Leon and Claire have their own separate playable campaigns, allowing players to see the story from both characters’ perspectives. The fate of these two fan favorite characters is in players hands as they work together to survive and get to the bottom of what is behind the terrifying attack on the city. Leon enters NEST Laboratory with Ada’s ID Wristband and explores its sterile halls while hunting for the G-Virus sample. He upgrades his wristband by scouring the Reception, Nap Room, and Cafeteria, collecting chips to gain deeper access while battling zombies, Lickers, and the deadly Ivy Zombies that can only be permanently destroyed with fire. The Greenhouse section forces players to mix and cool a chemical herbicide in a multi-step puzzle to kill Plant 43, all while dodging regenerating plant monsters and Mr. X’s sudden pursuit. After unlocking Senior Staff clearance, Leon crosses to the West Area, restores power with the Signal Modulator, and witnesses the aftermath of the Umbrella team’s failed raid before claiming the G-Virus. A self-destruct sequence triggers, leading to a brutal showdown with the ultimate mutated William Birkin, where precise shots to his exposed eyes are key to survival. After the fight, Leon watches Birkin plunge into the depths and reunites with Ada Wong, only for her to betray him and reveal she intends to sell the virus—before seemingly falling to her death when a bridge collapses. Racing through the collapsing facility, Leon faces the flaming Super Tyrant, using an anti-tank rocket supplied by Ada’s mysterious return to destroy the monster and escape to safety on the tram, reuniting with Claire.
