Sunday morning at Calvary Chapel Faith Fellowship with Pastor Jim Sweigart.

Matthew 2 recounts the story of the wise men’s visit to Jesus, highlighting Herod’s paranoia and the chief priests’ lack of interest in the Messiah. The wise men, guided by a star, brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, symbolizing Jesus’ kingship, divinity, and future suffering. Despite Herod’s deceitful intentions, the wise men worshiped Jesus, recognizing His true identity.

The wise men, warned in a dream, did not return to Herod, who then ordered the massacre of male infants in Bethlehem, fulfilling a prophecy from Jeremiah. Joseph, also warned in a dream, took his family to Egypt, fulfilling another prophecy. The text explores the significance of Jesus’ birthplace, Nazareth, and the ongoing battle between the flesh and the spirit within believers.
