You can have the absolute best goals and objectives selected, but if you assign all the SMART goals without looking at their current job and what resources are available, then we might be setting people up for failure or really damaging your workplace culture.
For the people on our team who find very high levels of job satisfaction by achieving their goals, giving them unattainable goals can be devastating.
We also have to see what vital things people are currently doing in their jobs. We NEVER want to put people in a situation to decide between doing what is the best for the company and customers in their mind or accomplishing SMART goals to get a raise.
