The snail that forged armor out of metal

The scaly-foot gastropod, also called the iron snail, is the only known animal that forges armor from metal. Its shell and even its foot are covered with iron sulfide, making it a living tank of the abyss. But despite its strength, it is endangered due to deep-sea mining. A paradox of evolution: armored like a knight, yet fragile as life itself.
